Is it permissible for a girl to talk about menstruation and the menstrual cycle and laugh about this topic with her friends?

The Shari'ah encourages modesty and praises those who possess it, for modesty is entirely good. The women of the Companions used to ask about matters of menstruation and janabah (ritual impurity) with modesty, due to their need for knowledge. A woman's discussion of these matters with another woman should be limited to what is necessary, without elaboration or excess, because over-familiarity in such matters might diminish her standing.
