What is the ruling on a girl working in a job that is Islamically permissible and has a noble purpose, if her remaining at home causes her humiliation and starvation from her younger sister, knowing that her elderly mother prefers her to stay at home?

The fundamental principle is for a woman to remain in her home. If she does go out to work, the work must be suitable for her nature, she must adhere to the Islamic guidelines, and she must not mix unlawfully with men.

Obedience to the mother is obligatory if she forbids her daughter from going out to work. However, if the daughter is in dire need of work to maintain her chastity, and the mother does not agree even after attempts to persuade her, then there is no sin upon the daughter for going out to work, while being keen to honor her mother.

Two pieces of advice for the daughter: Patience with any harm from her family and responding to their ill-treatment with kindness, and considering marriage as a solution to her problem, along with supplicating to Allah to facilitate a righteous husband for her.
