Do the Hadiths "He who is killed defending his property is a martyr" apply to someone who defends his car with a weapon and is then injured or killed, or the assailant is injured or killed? Is it obligatory to wait for the first shot to be fired before injuring the assailant, and is it permissible to use a weapon obtained from the 2011 chaos or as spoils for self-defense?

The aggressor against life, property, or honor is referred to by scholars as a "ṣāʾil" (assailant). It is permissible to repel him with the lightest means possible, then progressively with heavier means. Therefore, it is not permissible to kill him if he can be repelled by lesser measures. However, if he cannot be repelled except by killing, then it is permissible to kill him after warning him. If the ṣāʾil is killed, he is in the Hellfire, but if the defender is killed, he is a martyr. It is permissible to injure the ṣāʾil with a non-fatal blow if it is highly probable that he will use his weapon, and the defender should try to injure his limbs to stop his aggression. If the ṣāʾil only wants money, repelling him is permissible but not obligatory.
