What should one do if they exaggerate in using water for purification (istinja) and doubt that their feet have been touched by urine, which causes them to spend a long time in the restroom, and is it disliked for a Muslim to urinate while standing?

There should be no extravagance in the use of water for istinja’ (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself). If you doubt that urine has touched your foot, you are not required to wash it because the original state is purity. Water used for istinja’ that has not changed [in color, smell, or taste] is pure. We advise you to turn away from waswas (whisperings of Shaytan) and doubts. It is permissible to urinate while standing if you are sure that impurities will not splatter. Istinja’ with something other than water is sufficient if the impurity has not spread beyond its place, but it is better to combine wiping and washing with water, without extravagance.
