Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbid urinating while standing? And is that related to the availability of modern toilets? And is istinja’ (ritual cleansing) for the front necessary after urinating? And is it permissible to remove impurity with the right hand always, given that the water hose is on the left side?

Aisha, may God be pleased with her, mentioned that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to urinate while sitting, whereas Hudhayfah, may God be pleased with him, narrated that he urinated while standing in a dunghill of some people. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar reconciled between the two hadiths by stating that Aisha's knowledge pertained to what occurred inside homes, while she was not privy to what happened outside.

Accordingly, there is no harm in urinating while standing or sitting. As for istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself), its place is only the front private part. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade istinja' with the right hand. This prohibition, according to the majority of scholars, is for tanzih (to show disapproval) and etiquette, not for tahrim (prohibition), while some Ahl al-Zahir and Al-Shawkani view it as haram. For caution, it is advisable to completely avoid istinja' with the right hand, even if it necessitates placing water in a container to perform istinja' with the left hand.
