Is it permissible to bring purposeful magazines containing pictures into the home? And do they prevent angels from entering? Is a husband allowed to prevent his wife from reading or bringing them in, and must she obey him? What is the husband's duty towards his household in terms of education and care? Must he help his wife in her obedience to Allah? Is it permissible for a woman to seek divorce if she feels her faith is weakening due to the unavailability of means for that in her husband's home, and if she believes it is highly probable that she will be more faithful after a divorce?

The preponderant view is the permissibility of photography, especially if it serves as an educational tool. It is not permissible for the husband to compel his wife to adopt his opinion on matters of disagreement, though he may prevent her from bringing in pictures that he deems forbidden. The husband must teach his wife the knowledge that is obligatory by Sharia, such as prayer and fasting. He may prevent her from acquiring additional knowledge if it conflicts with his rights. The husband must command his wife to perform obligatory acts of obedience, but he is not required to command her to perform Sunnah acts. He may prevent her from performing supererogatory acts if it affects his enjoyment. It is not permissible for the wife to seek divorce due to a lack of complete obedience in the marital home. Rather, she must strive in the worship of Allah in its comprehensive meaning, balance her familial duties with her other interests, and make her husband her consultant.
