What is the ruling on a man divorcing his wife in response to her request, "I ask you by Allah to divorce me," while he does not wish to divorce her and loves her?

A man's statement to his wife, "You are divorced," is an explicit pronouncement of divorce and does not require intention. It takes effect because it is a response to the wife's request. Divorce is not the only solution to marital problems, and it is not permissible for a woman to request a divorce except for a legitimate Shar'i reason. A Muslim must consult with people of knowledge before undertaking any action.
