Is it permissible for a woman who has legally married in Algeria and whose husband has consummated the marriage with her, but then abandoned her for more than 7 years without financial support, to divorce herself? And how is that done?

The aforementioned marriage is valid as long as the husband does not declare the intention of divorce at the time of the contract; otherwise, it would be a void temporary marriage (mut'ah). We advise the husband to fear Allah and to treat his wife kindly, for he will be held accountable for her on the Day of Judgment regarding her lodging and maintenance. If reconciliation between the spouses becomes impossible, the wife is permitted to seek a divorce due to harm, provided it is officially documented.
