Is it permissible for a Muslim to maintain ties with his paternal and maternal uncles (his father’s brothers and his mother’s sisters’ husbands) whom his mother has ordered him to boycott, threatening him if he connects with them, knowing that the mother suffers from a nervous disorder and might suffer a shock as a result?

Filial piety and maintaining kinship ties are among the greatest acts of worship. It is not permissible to obey one's mother in severing kinship ties, because obedience is only in what is good and permissible. However, one must continue to be dutiful to the mother and maintain kinship ties discreetly if it is not possible to convince her.
