The answer

Zakat is not obligatory for an employee or a wage-earner unless their wealth reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) and a complete lunar year (hawl) passes over it. According to the majority of scholars, subsequently acquired wealth is not combined with the original principal. It is permissible to pay zakat on all of the wealth when the hawl of the original principal is completed. The amount of zakat is one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%), and it is to be given to those entitled to it, as mentioned in Surah At-Tawbah (verse 60).
