The question

What advice can be offered to Muslims who kill one another in some countries? Is it permissible in Islam for a Muslim to kill his Muslim brother without just cause, or is it forbidden? Is it forbidden to kill Muslims simply because they belong to another tribe? And what do the Almighty God and the Seal of the Prophets say about these actions?

The answer

Among the signs of the Hour are the abundance of tribulations (fitan) and killing. Among their causes are the calls of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance) and fighting under a blind banner, which is among the greatest sins after shirk (associating partners with Allah), and its perpetrator is threatened with severe punishment. A Muslim must strive to reconcile disputing parties with justice. If one of the two parties commits aggression, it should be fought until it returns to Allah's command. He (the Muslim) must also supplicate for the Muslims and offer them assistance.
