Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) haggle over the prices of goods in the marketplace?

It has not been established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, haggled in the marketplace, but he approved of haggling and legislated it for his Ummah. This is evidenced by his haggling with Jabir over the purchase of his camel. He initially bought it for a dirham, then increased the price until it reached an ounce, after which he gifted him the camel and the dirhams. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to send others to buy on his behalf, disliking that people would show him preferential treatment. He would also walk through the markets and teach people noble morals. Among these are his sayings, peace and blessings be upon him: "By Allah, the world is more insignificant to Allah than this [dead goat] is to you," when he passed by a dead, one-eared goat, and: "Whoever cheats is not from me," when he passed by a pile of food.
