What is the ruling on one who conceals a crime of zina and its illegitimate child out of necessity?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

A Muslim must conceal the sins of his Muslim brother if he sees him committing a transgression. As for a child born out of wedlock, he is attributed to the woman's husband if she is married, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The child belongs to the marriage bed, and the adulterer gets naught but stones." If she is not married, the child is attributed to her, and not to the fornicator.
