Is it permissible to abandon prayer for fear of polytheism due to a distracted intention?

Satan causes the person afflicted with whispers (waswas) to abandon prayer. The cure for these whispers is to ignore them and pay no attention to them, and to continue performing the prayer. Abandoning prayer is a grave sin, and one must hasten to repent and maintain the prayers at their prescribed times, without giving any importance to the whispers.
