What is to be done when the mind becomes preoccupied with the works of Satan while standing before Allah in prayer?

Prayer is the second pillar and the foundation of religion. Some scholars have deemed the one who abandons it to be a disbeliever, based on the words of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Between a person and disbelief and polytheism is the abandonment of prayer," and "The covenant between us and them is prayer; whoever abandons it has disbelieved."

Therefore, you must sincerely repent and make up for the prayers you have missed, for the key to the acceptance of all deeds is prayer. Do not despair of Allah's mercy, for He Almighty says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" Abandoning prayer is not a solution to your problems; rather, it empowers Satan against you.
