Is someone who is assailed by doubts about Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) considered a believer or a disbeliever, even though he repels these doubts, performs all the pillars of the religion, does not feel a spiritual faith but intellectually believes in the necessity of a Creator?

This person is a Muslim and does not exit the religion due to doubts and whisperings, because Allah has forgiven this Ummah for what they ponder in their hearts, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it. The one afflicted by these whisperings must strive against their self to get rid of them, and they will be rewarded for this struggle. Their dislike of these whisperings is a sign of the sincerity of their faith. They must be diligent in seeking means to increase faith, such as associating with righteous people, contemplating Allah's names and attributes, contemplating the Last Day, increasing supplication and remembrance of Allah, and striving to acquire religious knowledge.
