What is the ruling regarding the purity of places and things touched or used by someone who owns a dog, and are they necessarily considered impure?

The default state of things is purity. If one is certain that a dog's saliva or excrement has touched a spot on the ground, its purification is achieved by pouring water over it. As for bathrooms and similar places, they are purified by increasing the amount of water over the impurity without requiring a specific number [of washes] or the use of earth. However, if a dog's impurity touches the body or clothing, the affected area must be washed seven times, one of which is with earth (soap can substitute for earth according to the Hanbalis). Interacting with those who touch dogs is permissible unless one is certain that they have been afflicted with impurity, and dry impurity does not transfer to dry objects that come into contact with it. There is no harm in adopting the easier opinion to alleviate hardship.
