Is a person's fear of disbelief and his rejection of what Satan whispers to him concerning doctrine a sign that he has not disbelieved, even if he neglects prayer out of laziness? And if disbelief is not negated from him, is he then required to pronounce the Two Testimonies and perform ghusl, like a disbeliever who has recently embraced Islam?

A person's fear and rejection of the whispers of Satan concerning creed is evidence of faith. However, faith is both words and deeds, and the rectification of the inner self necessitates the rectification of the outward self. Laziness in performing prayer is a sign of weak faith, and scholars have differed concerning the ruling on one who abandons prayer out of laziness. It is obligatory for one who is lazy in prayer to repent to Allah and firmly resolve to perform it at its appointed time. He is not required to perform ghusl (ritual bath) or repeat the two declarations of faith for repentance. It is recommended to seek righteous company and to listen frequently to Islamic audio lectures.
