The question

Is it obligatory to pay Zakat on capital in Ramadan, given that the money is invested and a full year has not passed, and are profits subject to Zakat upon receipt, or should Zakat on capital and profits be postponed until the end of the year? And is Zakat obligatory on money withdrawn from the first investment and recently invested with another person, at the same time as the Zakat of the first money, or should one wait for its own [hawl] (zakat year)?

The answer

You are obligated to pay on the capital present with partners one and two, along with your share of the profit, if any. If no profit has appeared, you only pay Zakat on the capital. It is not permissible to delay Zakat until the end of the Gregorian year, as the determining factor for Zakat is the Hijri calendar. The (minimum threshold) for banknotes is approximately eighty-five grams of gold, or what equals five hundred and ninety-five grams of silver. You must pay a quarter of a tenth (2.5%).
