Is it true that all humans will pass over the Fire on the Day of Judgment, some of whom will remain therein and some of whom will exit from it, and what is the evidence for that?

The passage of all people over the Fire is an inevitable matter, and this has been mentioned in the Holy Quran in the verse: "And there is none of you but will pass over it. This has been decreed as a certainty by your Lord. Then We will save those who feared Allah and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees." Scholars have differed on the meaning of "passing over it" (wurud). Some have taken it to mean entering it, and it will be cool and peaceful for the believers. Others have taken it to mean passing over the Sirat (bridge). Still others have taken it to mean merely approaching it. Some scholars, such as Ash-Shawkani and Ash-Shinqiti, have preferred the opinion that "passing over it" (wurud) means entering it. They reconciled between the verses by stating that believers enter the Fire but it does not harm them, or that they are kept away from it after approaching it, or that what is meant by "passing over it" (wurud) is passing over the Sirat that is laid over it. The saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, indicates the believers' entry into it: "Passing over it (al-wurud) is entering. No righteous person or wicked person will remain but will enter it, and it will be cool and peaceful for the believers, just as it was for Abraham, peace be upon him."
