What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a wife resorting to fantasizing about an imaginary person during intercourse, due to her aversion to her husband and their frequent disputes, and her doing so in response to his request and to preserve her home?
The jurists' opinions differed regarding the ruling on a man or woman imagining another person during sexual intercourse. The majority of jurists—the Hanafis, Malikis, Hanbalis, and some Shafi'is—deemed it forbidden, with some even considering it a form of adultery, citing that imagining a sin in its form is unlawful. Conversely, the relied-upon view among the Shafi'is permitted it, based on the : "Indeed, Allah has forgiven for my Ummah whatever they whisper to themselves," which was interpreted to mean that such imagination does not lead to sin unless the person intends to commit the sin in reality. Nevertheless, some Shafi'is held the view of prohibition. In conclusion, it is advisable to abandon this habit, seek forgiveness, and work on improving the marital relationship through dialogue and good companionship.
