The question

Can jinn appear to humans? Is there anything in the Quran and Sunnah that describes their form? Can they inhabit human bodies and harm them? Do they have the ability to know human thoughts and speak to them? And does Islamic دين conflict with the possibility of reading minds and telepathy?

The answer

Jinn possess the ability to appear to humans in various forms other than their true forms. Furthermore, the affliction [by jinn] is established as a jinn's effect on humans, and the entry of a jinn into a human body is affirmed by the consensus of the Imams of the Ahl al-Sunnah. A sorcerer may use jinn to harm people. However, the jinn's knowledge of what people think is not factual, because what is in the hearts is the unseen, known only to Allah. Likewise, humans cannot know what is in the chests. As for jinn speaking with people, this is established, and it may occur openly from them or while they are concealed.
