It is not permissible to call the (call to prayer) in a church without the permission of its owners, because the People of the Book dislike that, and because churches often contain pictures and statues, which many jurists deem forbidden to enter while they are present. The prohibition is further emphasized if the Adhan is made during their annual celebration for three reasons: First, because it involves participation in their festival, which is forbidden. Second, because the Adhan was legislated to announce the time of prayer, not to participate in celebrations. Third, because it causes confusion and mixing among common Muslims regarding the concept of peace, as they might mistakenly believe that the peace of disbelievers is the peace of Islam.
