What is the ruling on the imamate of a person who suffers from a disability that prevents him from sitting properly between the two prostrations, and causes him to turn his body away from the Qiblah during the Tashahhud to extend his leg, especially when there is someone more worthy of leading the prayer, and the congregants dislike that?

If the Imam's turning while preparing to sit does not cause him to deviate from the direction of the Qibla (definition), then his prayer is valid, according to the Prophet's saying, "What is between the East and the West is a Qibla." However, if his turning causes him to deviate from the direction of the Qibla, then it is not permissible to follow him, because he is unable to face the Qibla. Jurists have differed on the validity of following someone who is unable to fulfill a condition or a pillar [of prayer]. As for him leaning on his knees and hands while sitting between the two prostrations, this does not invalidate the prayer as long as he is unable to do otherwise. However, it is more appropriate for someone else who is able to perform the prayer correctly to lead. If most people dislike his imamate, then it is better for him to step down.
