Does the period of abandoning prayer and committing sins wipe out the good deeds that preceded it, and does Allah accept the repentance of one who abandoned prayer, knowing that whoever abandons prayer is a disbeliever?

Prayer is the second pillar of Islam and the first of a Muslim's deeds to be examined. Whoever abandons prayer, denying its obligation, has committed disbelief (kufr) by the consensus of the scholars. As for one who abandons it out of laziness, the majority of scholars (Malikis, Shafi'is, and Hanafis) do not consider him a disbeliever for that, and he must make up all missed prayers. However, the Hanbalis consider him a disbeliever, and according to them, he is not obligated to make up prayers, and his previous good deeds become void. Allah accepts the repentance of a servant if he regrets, abandons the sin, and resolves not to return to it.
