Legally, nukul (refusal to swear an oath) is the abstention of one upon whom, or for whom, an oath is due. It is the refusal to take the oath legally required at the judge's request. Its applications are numerous and include marriage (nikah), mutual imprecation (li'an), oaths (yamin), sales (buyu'), and acknowledgments (iqrar).
