The answer

Allah named forgiveness from the blood money (diyyah) as charity and encouraged it, saying: "And whoever kills a believer unintentionally, then free a believing slave and a compensation (blood money) surrendered to his family, unless they remit it as charity." And forgiveness is praised if it is accompanied by reconciliation, as He said: "But whoever pardons and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah." If there are signs of repentance from the one who caused the killing and he is in need, then it is better to forgive the blood money; otherwise, it is better to take it and put it into an ongoing charity.
