Is a husband entitled to refuse to accompany his postpartum wife—who is suffering from C-section pains and wishes to go to her family's home to receive help and care—under the pretext of pleasing his mother and fearing her anger?

It is recommended for the husband to permit his wife to go to her mother's house for childbirth if it would comfort her to have her mother's help with her and the newborn. This falls under the good companionship enjoined by Islamic law. It is not obligatory for the husband to grant her permission, but it is recommended. If he does not permit it and she needs someone to assist her, then he must provide her with a maid. The mother's anger does not matter if the husband provides his wife with a maid, because he is fulfilling his duty, and he should be gentle with his mother. The relationship between in-laws must be good, and the husband should seek wisdom in mending relations between his wife and his family.
