How should one deal with a wife who has requested a divorce and refused to relinquish her rights, knowing that she brought the police to the house and made false accusations, after there had been a previous fatwa stating that the first divorce did not occur, and the relationship has been marred by problems and the wife's emotional outbursts, and the husband's animosity towards her family?

The husband's harshness towards his wife regarding her relationship with her family, and his insulting her mother, does not fall under the prohibited 'Adl (hindrance), especially if he later allowed her to visit and communicate with her family. Therefore, what he took from her in exchange for her divorce is permissible. However, her return to him is not valid except with a new contract and a new mahr, because a divorce for compensation results in an irrevocable minor divorce (baynunah sughra). If it is highly probable that she will be upright, then there is no harm in marrying her. If it is highly probable that she will persist in her disobedience (nushooz), then it is better to turn away from her, while performing istikharah (prayer for guidance) in all matters.
