Why did Muslims choose Friday as their day of rest, while Jews and Christians chose Saturday and Sunday?

Allah Almighty has singled out the Muslim nation with the day of Friday, making it an weekly Eid for them. He guided Muslims to it, while leading the Jews and Christians astray from it.

Friday is the best day on which the sun has risen. It holds great virtues: Adam was created on it, admitted into Paradise and expelled from it, and Allah accepted his repentance on it. The Hour (Day of Judgment) will also commence on it.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged performing ghusl (ritual bath), cleaning oneself, wearing the best clothes, and arriving early at the mosque on Friday.

Regarding abstaining from work on Friday, the Malikis held it as disliked to abstain from it as an act of worship, fearing resemblance to Jews and Christians. However, they permitted abstaining from it for rest or to prepare for Friday prayer and the subsequent acts of worship.

In summary, Friday is a day of worship and dedication to it, not a holiday in its worldly sense. Working on it is permissible until the time of the call to prayer.
