Is the saying, "May Allah have mercy on a person who fends off backbiting from himself," authentic, and does it apply to someone described as stingy for saving money?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not narrate a hadith with this exact wording. However, the objectives of Sharia indicate its meaning. Safeguarding one's honor is one of the six necessities, and this is supported by the hadith of Safiyyah, may Allah be pleased with her, when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified to the two men that she was his wife, fearing that evil suspicion would arise in their hearts, leading to their destruction. Therefore, a Muslim should keep away from situations that invite suspicion and anything that might cause people to think ill of him. He should protect his honor and not be excessive in his stinginess and frugality towards himself.
