When are hands raised in supplication?
The default is for the supplicant to raise their hands during supplication. This should only be omitted in cases where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regularly supplicated in front of a gathering of people and it was not reported that he raised his hands, such as supplication during prayer and during the Friday sermon, except for the prayer for rain (Istisqa'). In all other instances, raising the hands is legislated.
