What is the Sunnah, the manner, and the ruling regarding raising one's hands during supplication?

The basic principle is that it is recommended to raise the hands during supplication (Du'a), except in cases that have been excluded, such as supplication during the Friday sermon. As for wiping the face with the hands after supplication, scholars have differed on this, and it is preferable to refrain from it. Wiping the chest, kissing the hands after supplication, and then wiping the face with them is an innovation (bid'ah) that has no basis.

The raising of the hands should be moderate, so that they are level with the shoulders. The supplicant should exaggerate in raising them during Istisqa' (prayer for rain) until the whiteness of his armpits is visible.
