What should a person do who has a job opportunity in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj and pay off his debts, but has a sick mother who refuses to travel and prefers treatment in America, and he fears for his faith if he remains in the United States of America?

We ask Allah to grant you steadfastness in your religion. A Muslim should emigrate with his religion from the lands of disbelief. However, there is no harm in your temporary stay in those lands for the treatment of your mother, especially since she needs you, and this is a form of jihad. Your stay also serves the interest of your younger siblings who need care and guidance. As for debts, whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better. The real value is not in the abundance of wealth but in blessing. Be sure to work in an environment free from intermingling and religious prohibitions, such as Islamic centers. You should depart to the Muslim community near your family if it becomes difficult to convince your mother to emigrate. There is no harm in going with them for Umrah or Hajj, as that might be a reason for them to change their minds and their attachment to those lands.
