The fundamental principle is that teachers should be role models in goodness. If the prayer time is ample and the administration has set a specific time for it, then what the teacher did by delaying and preventing departure is permissible. However, if the delay leads to the expiration of the prayer time, then it is impermissible for the teacher to prevent students from leaving for prayer, and it is impermissible for adult students to agree with him.
