Is buying household necessities like vegetables and groceries considered part of the wife's obligatory service to her husband?

Spouses must cohabit amicably, and this includes what Islamic law has affirmed and what custom has established. The prevailing custom is that the wife is responsible for household chores, as indicated by the hadith: "And the woman is a guardian over her husband's house and his children, and she is responsible for them." As for purchasing household necessities from the markets, the default is that the husband is responsible for it, but if he is unable to do so, the wife should assist him according to her capacity, provided that this does not contradict custom.
