How accurate is the information circulating about how the angels will die, starting with the first blast of Israfil's horn and the death of the inhabitants of the Earth and the angels of the heavens, then the death of Jibreel, then Mika'eel, then Israfil, and finally the Angel of Death, followed by Allah's questioning of the world, saying: "To whom belongs the sovereignty this Day?" and His answering Himself: "To Allah, the One, the Irresistible"?

Scholars have differed on the issue of the death of angels, holding two views:

The first view: The majority of scholars are of the opinion that angels die. They cite the verse, "Everything will perish save His Face" (Al-Qasas: 88), and the Hadith of the Trumpet, which mentions the death of Jibreel, Mika'eel, and the Angel of Death. However, this Hadith is weak.

The second view: Some scholars hold that angels do not die. They cite the verse, "And the Trumpet will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall unconscious, except whom Allah wills" (Az-Zumar: 68), as some of the Salaf interpreted the exception to refer to angels. They also cite the verse, "lest you two become angels or become of the immortals" (Al-A'raf: 20), and the implication of the Hadith, "Jinn and humans die."

This matter is among the unseen, ignorance of which does no harm. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta' deemed inquiring about it to be delving into what does not concern one.
