Must a man separate from his wife if he does not know the number of times he divorced her, and whether it was two, three, or four?

If a husband doubts whether he pronounced one, two, or three divorces, then the ruling is based on the lesser, certain number. This is the view of the majority of scholars. If the husband is certain of two divorces but doubts a third, the doubt is discarded, and the ruling is built upon certainty, which is the occurrence of two divorces, and he still has one divorce remaining.
