Is all of Makkah a sacred precinct (haram), such that prayer in any of its mosques carries the reward of prayer in the Sacred Mosque (Al-Masjid Al-Haram)? If not, what was the situation before the current expansion of the Mosque and the inclusion of many houses and places within its boundaries?

The entire city of Makkah al-Mukarramah is a sacred precinct (), and the boundaries of the Haram are well-known. Prayer is multiplied throughout the Haram. Anything added to the Mosque and connected to it takes on its ruling regarding the multiplication of reward.
