Are good deeds multiplied in Makkah and Madinah merely by entering them, or is it a condition for that to be in al-Masjid al-Haram and al-Masjid an-Nabawi?
Scholars have differed regarding the multiplication of reward in the Sacred Mosque (Haram Makkah). The Shafi'is are of the opinion that it encompasses the entire Haram area, whereas the Hanbalis, Al-Muhibb Al-Tabari, and Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami hold that it is specific to the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) itself. As for the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi), the well-known view is that the multiplication of reward applies to it and to what has been added to it only. It was also said that it is exclusive to the mosque as it existed during his era, peace and blessings be upon him, and this is the view adopted by Imam An-Nawawi.
