Is prayer within the confines of the Meccan Haram multiplied a hundred thousandfold, or is this virtue specific to prayer in the Sacred Mosque?

The jurists hold two opinions regarding the multiplication of the reward for prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram. The first opinion is that it is exclusive to the Kaaba Mosque, and this was chosen by Al-Nawawi, Ibn Muflih, and Ibn 'Uthaymeen. The second opinion is that it includes the entire Haram, and this was chosen by the Hanafis, Malikis, Shafi'is, Ibn al-Qayyim, the Permanent Committee, and Ibn Baz. The preponderant opinion is the first one, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Prayer in it is better than a thousand prayers in any other mosque, except the Kaaba Mosque," and his saying: "Journeys are only undertaken to three mosques: the Kaaba Mosque, my mosque, and the Mosque of Aelia (Jerusalem)."
