Is it permissible for a traveler to shorten the prayer (qasr) if they intend to stay for a month for the purpose of work or leisure, and does the ruling differ between the two purposes?

A traveler completes his prayer if he intends to stay in a country for more than four days. If his intention is less than that, or he does not know when he will depart, then he shortens the prayer. So, if you intend to stay for a month in a country, you shorten your prayer on your way there if the distance is one that permits shortening, and then you complete the prayer upon your arrival. The view of the majority of scholars is the one we follow for issuing fatwas. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah differed, holding that a traveler may shorten his prayers as long as he does not intend a permanent stay.
