The answer

"Tahiyyat al-masjid" (greeting the mosque) is a according to the majority of scholars, and some have even reported a consensus on it. The evidence for this is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "When one of you enters the mosque, he should not sit until he prays two rak'ahs." Although some of the Zahiris said it is obligatory, the imams have agreed that it is for recommendation, and that it is an emphasized Sunnah.
