Is it permissible to perform ghusl by spreading water over the entire body without rubbing it, and did the Messenger perform ghusl with two liters of water?

The obligatory act in ritual bathing (ghusl) is to ensure water covers the entire body. Massaging the body (dalak) is not obligatory according to the majority of scholars. However, it is recommended for someone performing ghusl to massage their body and to begin with ablution (wudu') and the right side of their body. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to perform ghusl with approximately two liters of water.
