Among the books that elucidate the Israʼiliyyat are: "al-Israʼiliyyat wal-Mawdu'at fi Kutub at-Tafsir" by Abu Shahbah. Ibn Kathir also has numerous admonitions regarding them in his tafsir works and historical books. Al-Dhahabi has a book concerning them and presented them in "at-Tafsir wal-Mufassirun." Israʼiliyyat are narratives that Muslims adopted from the People of the Book—Jews and Christians—either orally or in writing, for lessons and admonition, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Narrate from Banu Israʼil, and there is no harm." It is permissible to narrate them as long as their falsehood or contradiction to the Qur'an and Sunnah is not known. However, whatever is known to be false is not permissible to narrate.
