What is the ruling on the presence of shrines and tombs in the Umayyad Mosque, such as the shrine of Prophet Yahya and the tombs of the Companions and the wives of the Prophet, and the Mashhad of the Head of Hussein? Are they authentic, especially given that there are those who sit by them, supplicate, and seek their intercession?

It is forbidden to build mosques over graves or to bury the dead within them, as indicated by the Prophetic hadiths. What is rumored about the existence of graves of companions or others in some mosques is not confirmed, and often these shrines were built in later eras and are not based on sound evidence. Furthermore, the practices carried out at some of these graves, such as supplicating, seeking aid, and circumambulating, are considered polytheism with Allah.
