Is it permissible to perform a surgical operation to widen the wife's vagina due to her inability to tolerate intercourse with her husband because of the size of his penis?

There is no objection to the vaginal widening procedure if the wife is agreeable. If she is not agreeable, she should not be compelled to it if the closure (ratq) is congenital. The husband then has the choice between separation or remaining. Jurists differed on compelling the wife to undergo treatment if the closure was acquired: some permitted compelling her, while others — namely the Shafi’is — said she should not be compelled at all. However, if the defect is with the husband (such as an unusually thick glans), she has the right to annul the marriage.
