What is the Sharia ruling on one who returns a gift merely due to a misunderstanding?

The ruling on giving and accepting gifts is that it is recommended (mustahabb), due to the connection and love it fosters among Muslims. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Had I been given a foreleg or a shank as a gift, I would have accepted it." He also guided towards exchanging gifts, saying: "Exchange gifts, and you will love each other, and animosity will vanish." It is disliked to refuse a gift without a valid excuse, and mere disagreement does not prevent its acceptance, because a gift brings love and removes psychological barriers.
