The answer

The matter is not without two scenarios:

1. If you bought it with the intention of trade, then it is a trade good, and zakat is obligatory upon it at the end of the hawl (one lunar year). It should be valued at its market price, and one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) should be given.

2. If you bought it with the intention of using it, then selling it after the installments are paid off and benefiting from its price, then it is not a trade good and no zakat is due on it, unless you sell it and its price remains in your possession for a hawl, and it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) by itself or when combined with other money or trade goods. In that case, you pay zakat on it like any other monetary wealth.
