Is it permissible to sell copies of the Qur’an in consumer societies like other commodities?

Scholars differed regarding the permissibility of selling copies of the Qur'an (Masahif). The majority (Malikis, Hanafis, and Shafi'is) held it permissible, though the Shafi'is explicitly stated it is disliked (makruh). The Hanbalis, however, deemed it impermissible. The preponderant view is that of the majority, because the sale pertains to the papers, ink, and covers, and selling these is permissible, along with the obligation to venerate and protect the Book of Allah.
